Growing up I have always had a curiosity in human behavior. I always said I wanted to be a psychiatrist. My interest grew, more specifically into the criminal mind and why they do what they do. I always enjoyed all my courses in sociology and physiology which further fueled my passion.

I was in the college counseling office getting transcripts ready to transfer to San Diego State to further my studies. While waiting in the lobby of the counseling office I came across an information sheet for Evidence Technician. I immediately knew it was something I wanted to do as I pursued my other passion.

I started taking courses in evidence technology being taught by Forensic Specialist from the San Diego Police Department. I commenced an internship at the San Diego PD for 2 ½ years. I learned about chemical processing, powders, photography and latent fingerprints. I would go out on “call outs” in the middle of the night with the forensic specialist and got very valuable hands on experience. What I learned while at the San Diego PD helped shape a solid foundation in forensics and created a mind shift concerning my career path. I started applying to various police departments but around this time the “CSI” crime shows were a big hit, and everyone wanted to be a crime scene investigator just like the show.

I got hired in 2008 by a department in Orange County. I had come to Disneyland many times and drove past a water tower which let me know I was close to my destination. Little did I know I would be working in this great city, the name on the water tower was Santa Ana. I have been here at the Santa Ana Police Department for 16 years now and still enjoying what I do. I have processed various types of crime scenes and have learned new techniques as advancements continue in our industry. I enjoy teaching and passing on what I have learned to new crime scene Investigators.

Some of my hobbies include bike riding, going on hikes and gardening. My kids are now in high school and mostly self-sufficient. I enjoy practicing football, baseball and wrestling with them. I also enjoy watching them play high school sports. I look forward to redirecting my time and efforts to the profession which has allowed me to have such a fruitful career and help those starting out on their journey.
